SUMMARY

Edy Ferguson was born in Chicago, where she received a Conway Scholarship to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. She then moved to New York and art directed music videos, culminating in an MTV Award for Best Video for the song Jeremy, by Pearl Jam in 1993. Afterwards, she enrolled at Hunter College, City of New York to complete her Master of Fine Arts.  Upon graduation, she devoted herself to creating art collectives to produce multi-disciplinary time-based performance and moving image work. In 2001 she began to invest her time in painting exclusively. In 2007 she travelled to Vienna and then to Athens where she worked between residencies in Europe and New York. In 2014 Ferguson moved to London on a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa, supported by Arts Council, England.

 

Ferguson has exhibited in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, London, Jersey, Paris, Nantes, Rome, Geneva, Athens, Thessaloniki, Caracas, Mardin, Torun, Vienna, and Innsbruck.  Her work is represented internationally in several high profile collections such as The George Economou Collection, Monique Barbier-Mueller, Mercedes Vilardell, and the Lampert Collection (LAC). Most recently she received a Creative Investment Grant from Cultivator Cornwall, (2021) and a studio development grant from Arts Council England (2020).  In 2019 she received a British Council travel grant (2019) to prepare for an exhibition and propose a public art work for the Yangling Mausoleum and Museum site in China. She lectured and taught at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts International Public Art Workshop (2019).  She has exhibited at The London Original Print Fair (2016), Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair (2016), Eclectic Cuts a solo exhibition at CCA Galleries in Jersey (2015), Arena at Torun Center of Contemporary Art - film program curated by Katarina Gregos (2015), Christie’s Multiplied Contemporary Art in Editions Fair in London (2015), Coke Tragedy a solo exhibition at Cortex Athletico Gallery, Paris (2014), ArtGeneve Solo Project (2014), Conspiracy Theory a solo exhibition at Bernier Eliades Gallery in Athens (2013),  America a solo exhibition at Faggionato Fine Arts in London (2013), Faces at the Onassis Cultural Centre--, Athens (2012) Double Take: The 2nd Biennale in Mardin Turkey (2012), a mid-career retrospective Edy Ferguson Selected Works 1992 - 2012 at The Benaki Museum–Pireos Annex, Athens (commissioned by George Economou)  which travelled to the Centre d’Arte Contemporain in Geneva (2012-2013).
